FACTS

• Every 15 minutes in the United States someone dies from an accidental prescription drug overdose.

• Accidental prescription drug overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States, surpassing car crashed and illegal drug overdoses.

• In 2012, more than twice as many people in Colorado died from poisoning due to opioid analgesics than from drunk-driving related fatalities.

MISSION STATEMENT & ACTION PLAN
It is our mission of this foundation to raise awareness, educate, and improve legislation on the epidemic of prescription drug misuse and abuse that causes a death every 15 minutes in this country. We believe that together we can save lives!

 • We are working with Regis University to develop curriculum to go out in schools and teach students and parents about the dangers of prescription drug misuse and abuse.

• We have set up a yearly scholarship to a pharmacy student at the CU Skaggs School of Pharmacy to help us raise awareness in the medical community.

• We are developing a media campaign including a You Tube Video to raise awareness of this epidemic.

• We are working on the Public Awareness Group of the Colorado Consortium to raise awareness of prescription drug misuse and abuse.

• We are developing an educational awareness presentation for five universities in Colorado that will be presented to college students on orientation day.

OUR ROOTS
jpOn September 25, 2012 we lost our beloved son, brother, and friend J.P. Carroll due to a deadly interaction with prescription drugs. J.P. was taking very commonly prescribed benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety medication) and the combination with a single dose of opioids (prescription pain medication) caused him to stop breathing in his sleep when he was just 26 years old.

Our goal is to SPREAD AWARENESS of this epidemic and EDUCATE parents, children, physicians, and everyone we can so that we can prevent another family from going through this tragic unnecessary loss. We know that by doing this we will absolutely save lives![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
